The 1998 Class Of IIT Bombay Donates Rs 57 Crore To Alma Mater

The 1998 class of IIT Bombay has committed to giving Rs 57 crore to their alma mater as part of the reunion's second jubilee celebrations. According to the institute, this is the greatest pledge made by a Silver Jubilee group to date.

The donation surpasses the previous record of Rs 41 crore set by the Class of 1971 for their golden jubilee celebrations. It comes from the likes of managing directors of Peak XV and private equity firm Silver Lake, Apoorv Saxena and Shailendra Singh.

IIT Bombay stated in an official post on "X" (previously known as Twitter) that "the funds raised by the Class of 1998 will help the Institute support key academic projects and the research landscape at IIT Bombay."

The batch released a statement stating that more than 200 alumni had contributed, with significant contributions coming from prominent global executives such as Anupam Banerjee, MD of Vector Capital, Dileep George of AI Research, Google Deepmind, Mohan Lakahmraju, CEO of Great Learning, Manu Varma, SVP of Colopast, CEO of Indovance, Sundar Iyer, entrepreneur from Silicon Valley, and CEO of Indovance, Sandeep Joshi.

Additionally, the Class of 1973 also pledged Rs 7.15 crores towards IIT Bombay. “The Golden Jubilee Batch (Class of ‘73) pledged a total of Rs 7.15 crores to support two causes: C1973 EV Power Train Laboratory and C1973 Faculty Awards for Excellence in Research,” the institute said in an official post.
