The guidelines to lower the MBBS passing standards to 40% were revoked by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on Friday, October 6. The NMC noted that the conclusion was reached after careful analysis of the issue and that lowering the cut-off for the MBBS passing marks to 40% is "not possible."

Earlier in September, the commission lowered the passing percentage for MBBS subjects with two examinations to 40%. The commission revised the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum recommendations with reference to the minimum scores needed to pass exams held at universities.
