Raja Jwala Prasad Postdoctoral Fellowship was established by Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to promote research on its campus. The new programme allows faculty members who have significant external financing for their research projects to work with postdoctoral fellows who are young researchers.

The fellowship was launched as part of the union government's Institution of Eminence (IoE) strategy. Based on the results and the availability of money under loE, it will be for one year but may be extended for another year. Along with a contingency payment of Rs 50,000 per year, the fellow will be paid a monthly salary of Rs. 60,000 and a residence rent allowance of Rs. Additionally, they will have access to a wide range of advantages, such as health services, a library, and other university facilities.

The programme also aims to advance ongoing research initiatives through increased research financing and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration across departments. During the fellows' time at the university, the faculty members who will be receiving Raja Jwala Prasad Post-Doctoral Fellows will serve as mentors, offering advice and support. The programme honours Raja Jwala Prasad, a former pro-vice-chancellor (VC) of BHU and a native of the Uttar Pradesh district of Bijnor. Jwala, the UP's top engineer, had planned the university's layout and played a key role in building the current campus.
