JGU to Launch India’s First Constitution Museum for the 75th Constitution Anniversary

Sonipat, O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), an Institution of Eminence, is all set to establish India's first Constitution Museum, marking the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India. The museum, named "The Constitution Academy and The Rights & Freedoms Museum," will be inaugurated on November 26, 2024, at the JGU campus.

The idea behind the museum is to make the Constitution accessible to wider audiences. The focus is on understanding the intent of the Constitution's makers and appreciating the journey we have undertaken in the last 75 years," says curator Anjchita B Nair, CEO, Culture and Head, Centre for Museums. 

The museum has a collection of conversations with experts about how the basic rights of Indian citizens have changed over time. It also has a Children's Corner with interactive displays, quizzes, graphic books, and pamphlets meant to teach kids about the Indian Constitution.

Despite our diversities,  we aim to remind our students of the power of being part of something greater than oneself and to inspire progress for our country." the Constitution stands as a unifying symbol of our national identity, reflecting the principle of 'Unity in Diversity.'"

Professor C Raj Kumar, founding vice chancellor of OP Jindal Global University, says, "Our vision for this museum is to showcase the making and the makers of the India Constitution, which includes the Constituent Assembly members who created this document, ordinary citizens who sought their constitutional rights, lawmakers who initiated essential amendments as well as lawyers and judges responsible for landmark judgments that have shaped modern India."

The museum is dedicated to the different parts of the Indian Constitution and what they represent. It has biographies of each member of the Constituent Assembly and the debates and discussions that went into making the paper. The museum focuses on the history of the Indian Constitution through different types of media, such as written, audiovisual, and hands-on. The museum has art inspired by the Constitution as well as pieces made from the actual document.
