The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras today launched the Jal Dhan Campaign on the campus. The programme, which was launched at the 2023 National Level Water Conclave, is in keeping with the themes of Sustainable Agriculture with a focus on millet, water conservation, and rainwater harvesting in industrial sectors. The Indian government is also working to rejuvenate 75 water bodies in each district of the country.

Ashwini Kumar Choubey, minister of state for the ministries of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, environment, forest and climate change, said: "It is crucial to save water for the future. The Government is also working to rejuvenate 75 water bodies in each district of the country….I congratulate IIT Madras for having such great Flora and fauna at the campus.”

"Water is one of the greatest contributions of nature to mankind…All great things today, from the growth of a plant to the survival of human beings.  When we want to find out if the moon is habitable, we first ask if there is water there… This gathering aims to make us all more aware of how the world's climate is changing. "Our tiny drops add up to an ocean," remarked V Kamakoti, the IIT Madras director.
