IIT Delhi's Abu Dhabi Campus Launches as Part of India-UAE Vision 2022

Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi witnessed the signing of a momentous Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday i.e. August 31, 2024, marking the establishment of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) campus in Abu Dhabi.

This development is part of the 'IITs Go Global' campaign and signifies a significant step forward in India's efforts to extend its educational expertise beyond its borders. IIT Delhi's Abu Dhabi campus aims to set a new precedent in leveraging the power of knowledge to drive shared prosperity and contribute to global advancements.

With master’s courses slated to commence in January 2024 and bachelor’s courses in September of the following year, the campus will offer a diverse range of educational programs. The establishment of this international campus further reinforces IIT Delhi's commitment to excellence and innovation.

A joint effort by the two countries:

The establishment of an IIT campus in the UAE was first announced in August 2022, following the vision statement released by India and the UAE earlier that year. Despite interest from various countries, IIT Delhi—already exploring campuses in Saudi Arabia and Egypt—was selected to lead this initiative. This move highlights the collaborative efforts of both nations to advance academic excellence and foster global educational exchange.

IITs pioneering international campuses:

IIT Delhi's expansion into Abu Dhabi follows IIT Madras's recent achievement of signing an MoU to establish a campus in Zanzibar. These initiatives highlight the IITs' commitment to diversity and global development, marking a transformative shift in India's higher education landscape. By opening international campuses, the IITs are broadening access to high-quality education and strengthening global partnerships.
