Goa Medical College Increases MBBS Seats upto 200

According to Mr Vishwajit Rane, the Goa state Health Minister, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has authorised expanding the number of MBBS seats at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to 200 for the academic year 2024-25.The GMCH, the largest government hospital in Goa, had previously received approval for 150 seats in its MBBS program.
In a media statement, Mr Rane stated that the GMCH's expansion of MBBS seats from 150 to 200 was a significant milestone in its pursuit of delivering high-quality medical education and healthcare services.
"For the academic year 2024-2025, we have received the Letter of Permission from the National Medical Commission, approving an increase in our MBBS seats to 200," he said.
The minister observed that this expansion represents a substantial stride towards improving the state run institution's capacity and allowing more students to pursue their aspirations of becoming competent medical professionals.
Mr Rane also reported that approval has been granted to enhance the number of seats in several postgraduate MD/MS courses.
He also stated that the number of seats for MD (radiodiagnosis) had been increased from 6 to 7, MS (general surgery) from 6 to 15, MS (obstetrics and gynaecology) from six to eight, MD (pharmacology) from 4 to 6, and MD (paediatrics) from 7 to 10.
Mr Rane emphasised that the government's dedication to addressing the increased healthcare requirements in the region and beyond and fostering medical excellence is reflected in the increase in seat capacity.
"The Goa Medical College is committed to the development of the next generation of medical professionals and the provision of state of the art medical education," he continued.
