IIT Madras was founded in 1959. It is a public organisation funded by the government. It has been rated the top engineering institution for four consecutive years, namely 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.



Anna University was established in 1978. It comprises 13 constituent colleges, 3 regional campuses, and 593 associated colleges. It offers various UG, PG, and research-based programs. By NIRF 2020, the university holds an overall 20th rank.



SRM Institute of Science and Technology, or SRMIST, is a top-tier deemed-to-be university that belongs to the SRM Group of Institutions. It was created in 1985. It has A++ accreditation from NAAC. SRM IST has inked an agreement with Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University to conduct training and research activities.



Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering was founded by Shiv Nadar in 1996. The higher educational college is affiliated with Anna University and became an autonomous institute in 2018. The college offers 21 courses across the Engineering stream at the UG and PG levels.



Dr. Jeppiar established the Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in 1987. It offers various courses, including Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, and Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. In addition to engineering studies, it offers undergraduate programmes in architecture, design, psychology, English, physics, commerce, financial accounting, and dental surgery.



Loyola College in Chennai is a Catholic Minority Institution created by the Society of Jesus in 1925. The college is connected with the University of Madras. Loyola is ranked sixth among India's top colleges by NIRF 2019. It provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in a variety of subjects, including commerce and economics, vocational studies, humanities, and physical sciences.
