Campus News
The "IIT Madras Deakin University Research Academy" is being introduced by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) in partnership with Deakin University in Australia. The Australian Consul General in Chennai, Sarah Kirlew, hailed the announcement during the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Since 2012, the two institutes have worked together. In order to give early-stage researchers outstanding international doctorate training opportunities, this academy will offer a four-year joint PhD program. As part of this agreement, 30 scholarships from both IIT Madras and Deakin University will be awarded to scholars in 2024.
In addition, the inclusion of clauses allowing academics and post-doctoral fellows to visit each other's institutes is expected to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange even further. Deakin University will provide 10 research scholarship posts (for DU students) and IIT Madras will provide 20 research scholarship positions (for IM students) as part of this PhD program.
Australia’s Deakin University is set to become the first foreign university to set up a campus in India. The campus has been set up in Gujarat’s GIFT City, and the academic year will begin soon. Deakin is ranked 266th in the QS World University Rankings and features among the top 50 young universities in the world.
